My Thoughts on Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry
Hello Queen,
This book had been on my radar for a while before I finally delved into its contents. I was hesitant because I knew its contents would be challenging for me to digest. I was right. It was challenging in a great way because Jackie doesn’t hold back!
When we’re talking about the nuances of the Christian and the LGBTQ+ community great sensitivity is usually employed. Jackie doesn’t do that. Thankfully she answered some of my questions about how LGBTQ+ view their identity and community. I didn’t realise that it is familial for so many (even though it makes sense). She shared the gravity of what it meant for her to choose her relationship with God over her relationship with her girlfriend.
I love that she encourages Christians to build connections with the LGBTQ+ community. To see them. What struck me is knowing how to love on those that we don’t agree with.
I pray differently because of this book. I pray that many within LGBTQ+ community will come to know Jesus. To feel authentically and unconditionally loved within the church space. I also pray that our churches will be bold enough to have the conversations that bring about healing and growth.
One things for sure, Jackie Hill Perry is a sharp shooter that God has used powerfully in this space. I truly believe that this is the beginning… but I’m going to stick to blogging and leave the prophetic till later! Ha!
I could go on and on about how good this book is… but I won’t! For now I’ll encourage you to grab your copy, chitchat it out with your friends and be a catalyst for change.
Love,
Sal x
